The first national meet of the “A ball for a better life” project will be carried out in Bogotá between April 19 and 22 and will include a camp and a sporting festival. It will integrate the expression of the sporting abilities of 90 boys, girls and teens from Bogotá, Cali and Medellín, in the sport of Soccer, alternating with different activities and games included in the programming.
The event will be carried in the installations of Comfamiliar Afidro accompanied by sports leaders, parents and teachers. The boys, girls and teens, besides the sporting, gaming and recreational activities including a cultural bonfire, will have a cultural, educational, scientific, technological, recreational and tourist outing to Maloka.
The “A ball for a better life” project benefits 600 boys, girls and teens in the poorest neighborhoods and aims at increasing individual and collective abilities which will enable these communities’ interaction and pro-active insertion into their context. This initiative is being put into effect simultaneously in Bogotá, Cali and Medellín, and is managed by FEDECAJAS and executed by COMFENALCO Antioquia, AFIDRO and COMFENALCO Valle.
In the case of Medellín, this project is being carried out in the 13th Commune, which is in a strategic location due to the corridors which connect its hillsides with some towns in the Northeast of Antioquia, which have a strong presence of illegal rural fronts who need provisions, ammunition, and roads for entering and leaving the Aburrá Valley. The zone has also presented a strong presence of urban militias, illegal paramilitary groups and bands of delinquents. This situation has meant that the 13th Commune of Medellín has experienced constant acts of violence which have brought consequences and cracks into this society.
