Successful establishment of 56 productive plots
in Turbo and Necoclí

During the months of November and December 2007, within the framework of the SAVIA: for a good start project, 50 family and 6 community productive plots were started up, with which 80 families at high nutritional risk in the towns of Turbo and Necoclí in the Uraba region of Antioquia will improve their nutritional safety by farming their own land.  95% of the people that will benefit from this component are women.

These families currently receive training in community organization, agrarian production, agricultural production and business management.  They had already been endowed with the basic tools and materials needed for setting up these plots and they are also receiving the technical advice necessary for making these units of agricultural production sustainable.

It is worth remembering that this productive component is part of a wider project trying to improve the nutritional conditions, the health and eating habits of 952 boys and girls between 0 and 6 years old, of 47 pregnant and lactating mothers, and of 236 families belonging to the lowest social strata in the region.

The project, which should be completed in the month of April, is carried out thanks to € 223.375 contributed by the Government of Navarra and the Navarra Bureau, both through the DNGO Compartir Navarra, the Government of Antioquia through the Program for Improving Antioquia’s Food and Nutrition –MANA-, COREDI and COMFENALCO Antioquia.
